Springdale, AR - Mayor Doug Sprouse has Proclaimed the month of October to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Springdale. The Mayor would like to shed light on the work of those in our community who help men and women find resources and provide individuals with a safe place to go in times of distress, including Peace at Home Family Shelter in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
According to the information found on the Peace at Home website, domestic violence is a pattern of one partner's behaviors to maintain power and control over another partner in an intimate relationship.
Studies show that, on average. "nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States - During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men," according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence' website.
Please join us in recognizing the importance of this month. May we speak out against domestic violence and support victims and survivors, victim advocates, service providers, health care workers, and the legal system, as well as those working to end domestic violence.
