Small Claims / Civil Court

The two primary differences between small claims and civil court are the limited monetary amounts and attorney involvement.
Small claims cases are limited to $5,000 or less. Attorneys are not allowed in the small claim process.
Civil cases are limited to $25,000 or less. Claims are filed by an attorney representing the plaintiff(s).
If either side (plaintiff (s) or defendant(s))in a small claims case obtains an attorney, the case is automatically transferred to the civil division.
