Elm Springs Road Overpass Project Update

Elm Springs Rd. Overpass

Update - Aug. 16, 2017

As of August 10, all lanes on Elm Springs Road Bridge were open to traffic. The final work to complete this project will consist of painting the steel beams of the bridge and punch list items. There will be periodic lane closures East bound and West bound to allow for this final work to be done. Lane closures will happen between the hours of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., and if necessary, between the hours of 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. We appreciate your patience during this final process.

Update - July 20, 2017

The traffic on the Elm Springs Road overpass was switched to the new bridge on July 19. The switch will enable the contractor to construct the sidewalk for the westbound traffic. This switch should last until the completion of the project, which is scheduled for late summer/early fall, weather permitting.

Crews will soon begin painting the steel beams, and the final step for this project will be the asphalt overlay and markings, which may cause traffic delays.

Update - April 18, 2017

Wednesday, April 19 to Thursday, April 20 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., the westbound outside lane next to the existing curb on Elm Spring Road will be closed beginning at the south-bound off ramp so concrete can be placed to construct the 8' sidewalk in that area.

Update - March 22, 2017

Elm Springs Road Nightly Lane Closures in Springdale: Thursday, March 23, motorists should expect lane closures between the hours of 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. for both Westbound and Eastbound traffic on Elm Springs Road in Springdale.

Update - March 2, 2017

As you may have noticed, work on the Elm Springs Road overpass has slowed during the past several weeks. In order to ensure that the structural integrity of the bridge is maintained during construction, the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) temporarily halted work on the bridge while an analysis was done on the concrete deck placed in November. As a result of that analysis, the contractor will have to remove part of the concrete deck.

The contractors plan resume work on the bridge on Monday, March 6. AHTD estimates the Elm Springs Road Overpass project will be complete by late summer/early fall, weather permitting. For more information, please contact Dennis Birge or Bashar Qedan with the AHTD at 479-251-9266.

Note: This is an AHTD project to widen the overpass on Elm Springs Road, which will greatly improve traffic flow in west Springdale. While construction is ongoing, there is increased traffic in this area. If possible, please take an alternate route, such as Highway 412, until construction is complete. Work began on this project in May 2016.

Update - Aug. 25, 2016

The project is ahead of schedule! Everyone at Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) and the City of Springdale is thankful to the residents of Springdale for your patience as progress continues.
