The City of Springdale has been selected as the winner of the 2018 Arkansas Business Trendsetter City Award for Education/Workforce Development.
The work done by the Springdale Chamber of Commerce in workforce development was the catalyst for the city's recognition. The Chamber of Commerce serves as the official economic development agent for the City of Springdale. The award recognized the Chamber’s Academy for Career Educators in Springdale (ACES) program. The annual three-day conference brings together Springdale School District career and technical educators with business leaders. Participants engage with industry through personal interviews, panels and site tours to better understand current industry skill needs and future career opportunities for students.
“This program, the only one of its kind in Arkansas, is one of several Chamber initiatives designed to close the skills gap and improve the awareness Springdale students have of today’s workplace and in-demand careers,” said Perry Webb, Chamber president.
"Springdale is one of the fastest growing cities in the country," said Mayor Doug Sprouse. "As such, it is imperative that we offer the tools necessary to support this growth through workforce initiatives that benefit our residents and local industry."
The Trendsetter Award is given to cities that are taking innovative steps and supporting initiatives for improvement and growth. The City of Springdale will be honored at the Arkansas Municipal League's Winter Conference in January.
