SPRINGDALE, ARK— PHOTO, VIDEO, AND INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES
An international cycling event will come to Northwest Arkansas this fall. The Red Bull Pump Track World Championship Final will be held in Springdale on Oct. 13, 2018 at The Jones Center.
Earlier this morning, The Jones Center had its groundbreaking of The Runway Bike Park where Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse announced the inaugural international competition would take place in Springdale.
“The new pump track at The Jones Center in Springdale will be a great addition to our community," said Mayor Sprouse. "As the heart of Northwest Arkansas, Springdale is a destination for visitors looking for great amenities. With the opening of the pump track, and the subsequent events at this location, Springdale will only benefit from the increased tourism and international interest. We are appreciative of the work The Jones Center has done to make this a reality, and the work they do in Springdale never ceases to amaze me."
The Velosolutions Pump Track at The Runway Skills Park will be the USA’s newest and largest pump track. The track is designed to offer cyclists of all skill levels – beginner, intermediate and experienced – access to a park where they can improve their skills.
Pump tracks are a worldwide success, combining rolling jumps with banked turns; they are accessible for all. Riders use the track features to gain momentum and attack the track as fast as possible. The Red Bull Pump Track World Championship is open to anyone to compete for the World Championship title.
Twenty-one qualifying events have been taking place around the world ahead of the championship final, which will take place on the new Velosolutions Pump Track being built at The Jones Center. The pump track will form part of the center's continued efforts to encourage sporting excellence and help to make cycling and action sports a part of their development programs.
“We are both excited and honored to partner with Velosolutions and Red Bull to bring this inaugural event to Northwest Arkansas where riders will have the opportunity to compete for the World Championship Final and experience some of North America’s finest trails,” said Mike Gilbert, Jones Trust Chief Operating Officer.
The 2.75-acre park will offer Springdale residents, including mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiasts, another option to have access to healthy active lifestyles. The park’s location in downtown Springdale, and its partnership with The Jones Center, will offer the city’s diverse population access to facility and programming support needed to engage this community successfully.
Another programming component for the park will provide access to training programs that assist the community’s youth to measure their progress and gain the confidence necessary to adapt to the wide variety of trails found in Northwest Arkansas.
The Runway Bike Park is projected to open to the public in September 2018, and the Red Bull World Championship will be held on Oct. 13, 2018.
