Springdale Water Utilities to perform smoke testing August 14-31

Springdale – From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., August 14-31, the Springdale Water Utilities will be performing “smoke testing” in an area south of East Huntsville Avenue to East Meadow Avenue and between Hewitt Street and Arkansas State Highway 265. The work is being performed in an effort to reduce the inflow of rain water into the sanitary sewer system and to reduce the cost of wastewater treatment.

Throughout this process, the SWU crews will be introducing smoke into the sanitary sewer system. You may notice smoke coming from building sewer vents, gutter, downspouts, or out of the ground along sewer lines. In the event that that smoke enters your home or business from our process, this may indicate a leak in your private plumbing system. While the smoke being used in harmless to plants and animals, the indication of smoke existing in private plumbing systems could be an indication of a health hazard. It is the customer’s responsibility to correct all leaks in private plumbing systems.

We apologize for any inconvenience this necessary process may cause. If you should have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to contact the Springdale Water Utilities at 751-5751.
